UN Reaffirms Commitment to Supporting Egypt’s Sustainable Development Goals

Elena Panova, the UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt, has reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to supporting the Egyptian government in achieving its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and national development priorities.

Panova highlighted the substantial financial backing provided by the UN, noting that activities in Egypt were funded to the tune of approximately $209 million in 2023 alone.

Her statement coincided with the release of the annual report from the 28 UN agencies operating in Egypt, which details the results of their joint cooperation across various fields. This report marks the first to be issued under the newly adopted framework of UN cooperation with Egypt, a framework signed last year that outlines the collaborative efforts to achieve the SDGs from 2023 to 2027.

The annual report underscores the wide-ranging impact of the UN’s support in Egypt, reflecting the organization’s commitment to fostering sustainable development in alignment with national priorities. As these efforts continue, the partnership between the UN and Egypt aims to address critical areas such as poverty reduction, education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability, ensuring progress towards a more prosperous and equitable future for all Egyptians.

Panova’s affirmation of ongoing support reinforces the strategic importance of the UN’s role in Egypt’s development journey, emphasizing that the collaboration is set to drive significant advancements in the coming years. The annual report serves as a testament to the fruitful partnership and the shared vision of both the UN and the Egyptian government in achieving comprehensive and sustainable development.
