Authorities in South Africa’s Southern Cape have arrested 12 people, among them four Egyptian nationals, in connection with a murder case that has sent shockwaves through the region.
According to provincial police spokesperson, the suspects were taken into custody during a coordinated operation involving multiple law enforcement units. The arrests followed an intensive investigation into the killing, which occurred earlier this month.
“Evidence gathered at the scene and through follow-up operations led us to the suspects, who are now facing charges related to the murder,” police said in a statement.
The identities of the victim and suspects have not yet been released pending court proceedings. Police confirmed that the group will appear before the local magistrates’ court in the coming days.
Community leaders have welcomed the swift action, but also expressed concern about the rise in violent crimes in the area, calling for increased patrols and stronger community police partnerships.
Investigations are ongoing, and authorities have urged anyone with additional information to come forward.
