PORT SUDAN – Lieutenant General Ibrahim Jabir, a senior member of Sudan’s ruling Sovereign Council and deputy army commander, stated on Friday that Egyptian air strikes could decisively end Sudan’s ongoing conflict within days. Speaking to Al-Mohaqeq, Jabir emphasized Egypt’s military strength and asserted that it could “defeat entire countries, let alone a militia,” referring to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Jabir’s remarks came in response to accusations from RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemetti), who claimed that Egypt had been covertly involved in bombing RSF positions since the conflict began in April. Egypt quickly denied the allegations, urging the international community to scrutinize Hemetti’s claims.
Jabir dismissed the RSF leader’s accusations as attempts to undermine the Sudanese army and fuel regional tensions. He reaffirmed Sudan’s close ties with Egypt, calling it a “great country” and dismissing Hemetti’s claim of a million RSF fighters as “naive propaganda.”
In a separate interview with Al Jazeera Net, Jabir highlighted recent advances by the Sudanese army, including the severing of RSF supply lines in key regions like Khartoum, Darfur, and Sennar. He expressed confidence that the army was on the verge of reclaiming strategic areas and predicted that both internal and external developments would soon weaken the RSF’s position.
