Spanish Prime Minister Removes Minister of Social Rights Over Support for Palestine

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has made the decision to dismiss Ione Belarra, Minister of Social Rights, from the cabinet due to her vocal support for Palestine amid the recent conflicts in the region.

Minister Belarra has consistently expressed her solidarity with the Palestinian cause since the outbreak of hostilities. Notably, she actively pursued charges of war crimes against Israel before the International Criminal Court and accused the nation of engaging in what she termed “live genocide.” Additionally, she suggested that the Israeli Prime Minister should face war crime charges for the actions taken during the conflict.

In a recent meeting with the Palestinian community in Spain, Belarra conveyed her strong support, stating, “Your cause is the cause of all decent and honorable people in the world.” The removal of Minister Belarra from the cabinet underscores the complexities and sensitivities surrounding discussions of international conflicts within the context of domestic political leadership.
