The Ministry of Energy Transport and Sustainable Development in Morocco has announced a significant contract between the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) and British energy giant Shell. According to the statement released on Sunday, Shell will be providing 500 million cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Morocco each year under a 12-year agreement.
While the financial terms of the contract were not disclosed, the deal will see LNG supplied to Morocco in the initial years through Spanish ports and transported via the Maghreb-Europe Gas Pipeline. Subsequently, the gas will be directly supplied to Morocco’s future LNG conversion units.
This strategic partnership between Shell and ONEE is expected to strengthen Morocco’s energy infrastructure and contribute significantly to meeting the country’s growing demand for natural gas. The collaboration highlights the potential for further cooperation between the UK-based energy company and Morocco’s energy sector in the coming years.
