CAIRO, 24 October 2024 — Romania has expressed strong appreciation for Egypt’s vital role in addressing the ongoing crisis in Gaza. In a recent interview, Romanian Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu praised Egypt’s diplomatic efforts, particularly in brokering a temporary ceasefire and facilitating humanitarian aid delivery to the besieged territory.
Odobescu emphasized the importance of the bilateral relationship between Romania and Egypt, highlighting their growing cooperation across various sectors, including trade, energy, and education. She noted that Egypt’s strategic location and deep regional understanding make it an essential partner in tackling regional challenges.
Both nations have been actively working to enhance their strategic partnership, particularly in light of the current conflicts affecting the region. The recent upgrade of the EU-Egypt strategic partnership is viewed as a cornerstone of their diplomatic relations.
The Romanian Foreign Minister also commended Egypt’s contributions to resolving complex issues in the region, including conflicts in Libya, Syria, and the Horn of Africa, as well as its efforts to combat terrorism and irregular migration.
During her visit to Cairo, Odobescu engaged in productive discussions with Egyptian officials on economic development, trade, and educational collaboration, expressing optimism about the future of their partnership and potential for further cooperation.
