Spanish tennis maestro Rafael Nadal secured victory in his comeback match on Tuesday following a year-long absence due to injury, as reported by AFP.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion emerged triumphant in his match against Austria’s Dominic Thiem at the Brisbane International.
After the match, Nadal expressed the significance of the day, stating, “To have the chance to come back after a year and play in front of an amazing crowd, and play I think at a very positive level for the first day is something that makes us feel proud.”
Now, Nadal is poised to face Jason Kubler in what could potentially be his farewell season.
The 37-year-old athlete endured an injury last year, leading to two hip surgeries and a year-long hiatus from the tennis courts.
