New Minister of Justice Adnan Al-Fangari Assumes Office

Adnan Al-Fangari, a distinguished judge and staunch defender of judicial independence, has officially taken up his duties as Egypt’s new Minister of Justice after being sworn in before President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Wednesday.

Fangari, known for his opposition to the 2012 Constitutional Declaration by the late President Mohamed Morsi, which aimed to consolidate judicial powers, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Born in Qena, Upper Egypt, in 1953, he has served in several high-profile judicial positions throughout his career.

Most recently, Fangari was the head of the Alexandria Court of Appeal and a member of the Supreme Judicial Council since 2022. His previous roles include heading the Beni Suef Court of Appeal and presiding over the Assiut Court of Appeal.

A graduate of the Faculty of Law at Cairo University, Fangari began his career in the Public Prosecution. He has held numerous significant judicial positions, including his appointment as Assistant Public Prosecutor by Republican Decree No. 271 of 2006. From 2006 to 2012, he also served as the Director of the Judicial Inspection of the Public Prosecution.

Fangari’s extensive judicial experience and commitment to judicial independence are expected to shape his tenure as Minister of Justice, contributing to the advancement of Egypt’s legal system.
