A meeting between the National Dialogue Coordinating Committee and relevant government ministers will soon take place to implement the remaining recommendations from Egypt’s National Dialogue, according to Talat Abdel Qawi, a member of the National Dialogue’s Board of Trustees.
The meeting aims to finalize the enforcement of the dialogue’s outstanding proposals, including those related to the country’s subsidy system. The Board of Trustees has been reviewing suggestions from various political factions on how to reform subsidies. A dedicated mini-committee, consisting of the General Coordinator, head of the Technical Secretariat, and the Rapporteur of the Economic Committee, will be formed to devise a plan for implementing these proposals.
Additionally, the committee plans to address new topics in future dialogue sessions, with a particular focus on national security and foreign policy—areas that have not yet been discussed in previous meetings.
As part of the ongoing discussions, the National Dialogue Board of Trustees has outlined a procedural approach for addressing the subsidy issue. A week of public general sessions will be held to explore various aspects of subsidies, including identifying eligible recipients, the advantages and disadvantages of in-kind versus cash subsidies, and ensuring that subsidies reach those who need them most.
The process will continue with specialized sessions, bringing together experts, political parties, and representatives from executive and civil society institutions. These sessions will culminate in final discussions to refine and finalize the recommendations from the National Dialogue.
The National Dialogue, which involves a broad spectrum of political, civil, union, and youth groups, aims to foster greater consensus on key issues facing the country.
