According to the Associated Press (AP) on Tuesday, Microsoft is poised to inject $1.7 billion into Indonesia’s cloud and AI infrastructure over the next four years, marking its most substantial commitment in the country to date.
CEO Satya Nadella unveiled the initiative, highlighting the transformative capabilities of AI, particularly within Southeast Asia.
Microsoft’s objective is to enhance Indonesia’s digital capabilities, which includes providing AI training for 840,000 individuals and fostering support for its burgeoning tech community.
This investment is in line with Indonesia’s vision for digital advancement, as President Joko Widodo proposed the establishment of an AI research center and a Microsoft data center in the country.
The move underscores the growing importance of the region in tech innovation, with forecasts indicating that AI could contribute nearly $1 trillion to Southeast Asia’s GDP by 2030.
