Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has reiterated Egypt’s unwavering support for the security, stability, and unity of Sudan, during a high-level meeting with Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok, amid ongoing efforts to resolve the conflict in the neighboring country.

In a statement released by the Egyptian presidency, El-Sisi emphasized that Egypt views Sudan’s stability as integral to the region’s peace and development, and stands ready to support all efforts toward a peaceful resolution of its internal crisis.

“Egypt will continue to back Sudan in preserving its unity, sovereignty, and national institutions,” El-Sisi stated, expressing concern over the humanitarian toll of the conflict and the need for constructive political dialogue among Sudanese stakeholders.

The meeting, held in Cairo, also touched on regional cooperation, cross-border humanitarian aid, and the revival of diplomatic dialogue within Sudan. Both leaders agreed on the importance of supporting African and Arab-led initiatives for peace while rejecting external interference that could deepen divisions.

Sudan has been grappling with a violent internal conflict since April 2023, with rival military factions battling for control. The unrest has displaced millions and sparked a severe humanitarian crisis. Egypt, which shares deep historical, cultural, and geographic ties with Sudan, has become a central figure in diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict.

Prime Minister Hamdok expressed gratitude for Egypt’s solidarity, describing El-Sisi’s commitment as a “pillar of regional stability and trusted partnership.”

Observers say the renewed pledge of support from Cairo reflects Egypt’s strategic interest in ensuring a stable and secure border, as well as preserving its influence in the Horn of Africa.
