Reports on Thursday revealed that Egypt witnessed a significant decline of approximately 25% in its imports of yellow corn in 2023 compared to the previous year. The total import volume for the year amounted to 6.3 million tonnes, down from 8.3 million tonnes in the previous year.
The decrease in yellow corn imports is attributed to a foreign currency shortage, as Egypt relies entirely on imports to meet its demands for corn used in the fodder industry. Tharwat El Zeiny, Vice Chairman of the Egyptian Poultry Association (EPA), emphasized that this decline has had a direct impact on the prices of fodders essential for the development of the livestock industry.
