Egypt’s Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, has traveled to Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, to represent President Abdel Fattah El Sisi at the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP 29. The conference will take place from November 12-13, 2024.
Madbouly, accompanied by Egypt’s Minister of Environment, Yasmine Fouad, will participate in high-level discussions involving heads of state and government. The Prime Minister is expected to deliver a key speech on behalf of President Sisi, addressing critical issues related to climate action, including mitigation, adaptation, and climate finance.
In addition to his speech, Prime Minister Madbouly will engage in several roundtable discussions with world leaders focused on practical measures to combat climate change.
A significant moment at the conference will be the participation of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, who will take part in the conference’s opening. This marks the first time in COP history that the Grand Imam has been invited to such an event, following an invitation extended by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during a meeting in Cairo earlier this year.
The Grand Imam is scheduled to deliver a speech emphasizing Islam’s approach to environmental preservation and the climate crisis. His address will underscore the importance of religious leaders in raising awareness and promoting solutions to the global environmental challenge.
COP 29, hosted by Azerbaijan, is expected to bring together world leaders, environmental advocates, and policymakers to discuss and accelerate global efforts to tackle climate change and its far-reaching impacts.
