New Delhi, February 5: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, is scheduled to visit India from February 6 to 7, marking a significant step in diplomatic engagements between the two nations.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Dr. Abdelatty will arrive in New Delhi in the early hours of February 6. His itinerary includes a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at Rajghat. India and Egypt share a longstanding historical and diplomatic relationship. Both nations have cooperated closely in international forums and were among the founding members of the Non-Aligned Movement in 1961.
The diplomatic ties between India and Egypt date back to August 18, 1947, when both countries established relations at the ambassadorial level. Over the years, high-level engagements have reinforced bilateral cooperation. India has witnessed five Prime Ministerial visits to Egypt since the 1980s, with the most recent being Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit in June 2023. During this visit, an agreement was signed to elevate bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership, and PM Modi was honored with Egypt’s highest civilian award, the ‘Order of the Nile.’
The upcoming visit by Egypt’s Foreign Minister underscores the commitment of both nations to strengthening ties across various sectors, particularly in diplomacy, trade, and regional security.
