Cairo — Prominent Egyptian writers are sounding the alarm over what they describe as a dangerous façade by the Al-Sharaa regime, accusing it of projecting a moderate image to the international community while maintaining deep ties to its jihadist past.
According to recent commentaries, the regime’s narrative of reform and moderation is contradicted by actions on the ground, particularly its alleged role in systematic violence against Syria’s minority communities. Analysts argue that the leadership’s carefully crafted public relations campaign is meant to secure legitimacy abroad even as brutal crackdowns continue at home.
“Presenting itself as modern and inclusive while fueling sectarian massacres is a two-faced strategy,” one Egyptian columnist wrote. “The world must not be deceived by rhetoric when the blood of innocent minorities is still being spilled.”
Observers warn that unless the international community confronts the regime’s duplicity, the cycle of oppression could deepen, further destabilizing the region and silencing vulnerable voices.
