Cairo, Egypt – The 32nd edition of the Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre (CIFET) will raise its curtains with The Triumph of Horus, an Egyptian stage production that draws inspiration from ancient mythology to celebrate resilience, justice, and cultural pride.
Scheduled to open later this month, the festival will showcase a diverse lineup of innovative performances from across the globe, with The Triumph of Horus taking center stage as the symbolic opening act. Rooted in the timeless story of Horus’ victory over chaos, the production blends traditional Egyptian performance elements with cutting-edge theatrical techniques, highlighting the fusion of heritage and experimentation that CIFET has championed since its inception.
Festival organizers describe the choice of the play as a deliberate nod to Egypt’s rich cultural legacy and its enduring influence on world art. “We wanted to open with a production that speaks not only to our past but also to the universal themes of justice, endurance, and creativity,” said festival director Mohamed Abdel Rahman.
The CIFET, which annually attracts theatre practitioners, scholars, and audiences from multiple continents, continues to serve as a platform for experimentation, dialogue, and cultural exchange. With The Triumph of Horus setting the tone, this year’s edition promises to merge history with innovation in ways that resonate both locally and internationally.
