Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi welcomed Jordanian King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein to Cairo on Monday for a series of high-level discussions. The meetings began with a private bilateral session, followed by an expanded discussion with delegations from both nations.
Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed El-Shenawy reported that the talks primarily focused on key regional issues, with a particular emphasis on the ongoing situation in the Palestinian territories. Both leaders called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid to the region.
The two leaders reiterated their firm stance against any attempts to marginalize the Palestinian cause. They voiced strong opposition to efforts that seek to displace Palestinians or undermine the two-state solution. Al-Sisi and King Abdullah emphasized that the creation of an independent Palestinian state, based on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, remains the only viable path to lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.
The discussions also touched on the situation in Syria, where the leaders affirmed their support for the Syrian state. As members of the Arab Contact Committee on Syria, Egypt and Jordan committed to preserving Syria’s unity and territorial integrity. They called for the initiation of an inclusive political process that represents all segments of Syrian society without excluding any party.
Additionally, President Al-Sisi and King Abdullah addressed the political and security situation in Lebanon, expressing their support for the recent ceasefire agreement. The leaders stressed the importance of fully implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and reaffirmed their commitment to Lebanon’s security, sovereignty, and stability, rejecting any aggression against the country.
The spokesperson concluded by noting the growing momentum in Egypt-Jordan bilateral coordination. Both leaders expressed a shared vision for strengthening ties and expanding cooperation across various sectors, aiming to fulfill the aspirations of their peoples.
