Egyptian Minister of Environment Stresses Women’s Crucial Role in Climate Change Mitigation

Yasmine Fouad, Egypt’s Minister of Environment, emphasized the pivotal role of women in addressing climate change, noting that they are the first to bear its impacts and are actively engaged in adaptation and resilience efforts.

During the Egyptian Women’s Summit in Cairo, Minister Fouad addressed the issue of waste, particularly animal waste in rural areas. She highlighted the contribution of an Egyptian woman named Mona, who pioneered the use of animal waste for organic fertilizer, exemplifying women’s role in sustainable practices.

Minister Fouad also called attention to the disparity in addressing climate crises globally, emphasizing the overlooked Gaza disaster and the continued denial of women’s equitable access to essential natural resources.

Education was highlighted as crucial, with Fouad stressing the importance of early environmental education for girls. Equipping them with knowledge and skills ensures a generation actively engaged in preserving the planet.

Fouad commended women for leading by example, citing initiatives like clothing recycling through the Egyptian clothing bank. By reusing and repurposing, women contribute to a cleaner, greener future.
