Egyptian Foreign Ministry Briefs Diplomats and Media on Arab-Backed Gaza Reconstruction Plan

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has held extensive briefings for foreign diplomats and international media representatives to outline the Arab-backed plan for the reconstruction of Gaza, following the approval of the “Early Recovery, Reconstruction, and Development of Gaza” initiative at the extraordinary Arab Summit in Cairo on March 4, 2025.

During the meetings, attended by ambassadors from Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas, as well as representatives from international organizations, officials presented a detailed overview of the three-phase plan designed to address the severe destruction in Gaza and help the Palestinian people recover and rebuild their lives.

The plan, which aims to remove 50 million tons of rubble, clear unexploded ordnance, and provide temporary housing, also includes the construction of 460,000 permanent housing units. Additionally, the restoration of essential services, networks, and facilities is a central component of the initiative. The plan is focused on rapidly alleviating the humanitarian crisis while working towards long-term reconstruction and development in the Gaza Strip.

Egyptian officials emphasized the scale of devastation caused in Gaza and stressed the importance of providing immediate relief to the Palestinian population to enable their return to normal life. The meetings also included discussions on enhancing security in the region, with a focus on intensifying training programs for Palestinian police officers and reinforcing the Palestinian Authority’s role in overseeing Gaza.

In a related event on March 6, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry conducted a comprehensive briefing for international media outlets, further elaborating on the Arab plan’s components. A key topic of the briefing was the emphasis on preserving the rights of Palestinians to remain on their land, rejecting any forced displacement. Additionally, the final statement from the Arab Summit highlighted the formation of a non-factional Palestinian committee, comprising technocrats to manage Gaza’s reconstruction and oversee the implementation of the recovery efforts.

Furthermore, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced plans to host an international reconstruction conference in cooperation with the State of Palestine and the United Nations. This conference aims to mobilize the necessary funding and international support to execute the ambitious reconstruction plan and ensure the sustained recovery of Gaza.
