Cairo – Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty urged immediate de-escalation in the Middle East during a phone call on Sunday with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araqchi. The two ministers discussed ongoing crises in the region, with a particular focus on the Israeli military operations in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.

In the call, Abdel Aty emphasized the need for all parties involved to take swift and decisive steps to de-escalate tensions and avoid a broader regional conflict. He warned that the situation, if left unchecked, could spiral into a full-scale war, further destabilizing the region and endangering its people.

According to a statement released by Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, Abdel Aty reiterated Egypt’s firm condemnation of unilateral actions and provocative acts that threaten the stability of the Middle East.

Regarding Lebanon, the Egyptian minister highlighted the importance of empowering state institutions and ensuring the election of a new president without external interference. Abdel Aty also provided an update on Egypt’s diplomatic efforts in the Gaza Strip, where he reaffirmed Egypt’s ongoing work with the United States and Qatar to negotiate a ceasefire, facilitate a prisoner-hostage exchange, and ensure the unconditional delivery of humanitarian and medical aid to the region.

The call reflects Egypt’s continued role as a key diplomatic player in the Middle East, working to mediate peace and stability in the face of escalating conflicts.
