Egyptian Exchange Joins ‘Ring the Bell for Climate’ Campaign in Global Effort for Climate Action

The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) has officially participated in the ‘Ring the Bell for Climate’ campaign, an initiative organized by the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE), coinciding with the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP28 in Dubai. As part of this global effort, exchanges worldwide demonstrate their commitment to climate risk mitigation and the transition to a low-carbon economy.

EGX Chairman, Ahmed El-Sheikh, EGX Vice Chairman, Heba El-Serafi, and other senior management members participated in the campaign’s opening ceremony at the bourse’s historical headquarters in Cairo. The EGX’s involvement in the initiative aims to promote climate action and sustainable development, highlighting the exchange’s role as a financial and sustainability leader in the region.

In a statement, El-Sheikh announced the launch of the African Voluntary Carbon Market, a significant step toward accelerating the transition to a net-zero economy. This initiative underscores EGX’s dedication to achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) and supporting environmental initiatives.

Nandini Sukumar, CEO of the WFE, emphasized the crucial role of exchanges in facilitating the transition to a greener economy, as they serve as a key source of investment. EGX’s participation in ‘Ring the Bell for Climate’ reflects its commitment to climate issues, and Sukumar expressed anticipation for continued collaboration with EGX and other members in building on the industry’s successes, such as the global agreement on Green Equity Principles.
