Egypt to Host 12th Edition of the World Urban Forum from November 4-8

Cairo – October 15, 2024 – Egypt has officially announced it will host the 12th edition of the World Urban Forum from November 4 to 8 in Cairo. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly during a press conference at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.

The event, held under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, is expected to attract over 20,000 participants, including approximately 14,000 delegates from 179 countries. This makes it one of the largest United Nations events, second only to the Climate Conference, following Egypt’s successful hosting of COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh.

Madbouly emphasized the significance of the New Administrative Capital as a model for urban development and planning, aligning with the goals of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat). He noted that the forum would focus on various aspects of urban and strategic planning, including affordable housing, infrastructure projects, urban transport, and environmental initiatives.

The Prime Minister highlighted that the Egyptian government has successfully implemented over one million housing units and improved living conditions for more than 300,000 families in slum areas as part of its urban development initiatives. He also mentioned the “Decent Life” initiative, aimed at enhancing the quality of life for over 60 million citizens in rural areas.

Madbouly concluded by expressing hope that the forum would showcase Egypt’s urban development achievements and facilitate knowledge exchange among global experts. He noted that 59 ministers from various countries have confirmed their attendance, with more participants expected as the event approaches.
