Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, has emphasized that the future of Sudan must be determined solely by the Sudanese people without external interference. Abdelatty made this statement during a meeting with Sudanese politicians and civil society representatives in Port Sudan on Tuesday, attended by Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ali Youssef.
During the meeting, Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s neutral stance, asserting that Cairo does not align with any specific party in Sudan but supports the Sudanese people and state institutions. He stressed the urgent need for a ceasefire and the commencement of a comprehensive political process to guide Sudan through a transitional phase that reflects the aspirations of its citizens.
Abdelatty also underlined the responsibility of Sudanese civil and political forces to prioritize national unity and stability to prevent the disintegration of their country. He praised the significant role of Sudanese women in enriching the nation’s political landscape and strengthening civil society.
Egypt’s Advocacy on Regional and Global Platforms
The foreign minister commended Egypt’s regional and international efforts to advocate for Sudan’s interests amidst the ongoing conflict. He noted that Egypt is actively working to secure Sudan’s reintegration into African Union (AU) activities while ensuring that Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are upheld.
Meeting with Sudanese Leadership
Earlier on Tuesday, Abdelatty met with General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, President of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council. During their discussions, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting Sudan’s stability during this critical period. He emphasized Egypt’s readiness to engage in all possible efforts to foster peace and security in the neighboring nation.
Abdelatty’s visit underscores Egypt’s solidarity with Sudan during what he described as a “dangerous historical juncture.” He reiterated Egypt’s commitment to bolstering stability and unity in Sudan, calling for collective action to initiate a comprehensive political process that aligns with the aspirations of the Sudanese people.
