Egypt Proposes 45-60 Day Gaza Ceasefire with Hostage Swap and Increased Aid Flow

Egypt has proposed a new ceasefire plan for Gaza, which includes a cessation of hostilities for 45 to 60 days, the opening of the Rafah border crossing, and a gradual release of hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails. Additionally, the proposal includes increasing the flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza, with the number of trucks rising to about 350 per day. While the details of the proposal have not been finalized, the plan is seen as a staged process. The first stage would last between one and two months, during which the Rafah crossing would be opened, and its oversight would be transferred to the Palestinian Authority. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected the idea of the Palestinian Authority playing any role in the post-war administration of Gaza.

Egypt has also reportedly rejected the presence of Israeli military forces in certain areas along the Gaza-Egypt border. No official comments have been made from Egypt regarding this proposal.
