Egypt Prioritizes ICT Growth, Targets 70,000 New Jobs, Says Prime Minister

Egypt’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector has been confirmed as a national priority by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, with government projections indicating the creation of 70,000 new jobs over the next year.

Addressing a tech industry forum in Cairo, PM Madbouly emphasized the central role of ICT in Egypt’s economic diversification strategy.

Job Creation and Economic Impact

The government’s plan focuses on:

  • Expanding software development, AI, and fintech industries
  • Supporting startups and innovation hubs in major cities like Cairo, Alexandria, and Giza
  • Enhancing digital literacy and vocational training programs

Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, noted that the ICT sector currently employs over 1.2 million professionals and continues to grow at an annual rate of 12%. The creation of 70,000 additional jobs is expected to further strengthen Egypt’s digital economy and reduce unemployment among youth and graduates.

“Egypt has all the ingredients to become a regional tech hub,” Talaat said. “Our policies aim to attract foreign investment while nurturing local talent.”

Government Support and Incentives

The Egyptian government has unveiled multiple incentives for tech companies, including tax breaks, startup grants, and partnerships with international ICT firms. Public-private collaborations are being strengthened to encourage research, innovation, and skill development.

Economists say this initiative could boost GDP by 2-3% over the next five years, positioning Egypt as one of the fastest-growing tech economies in North Africa and the Middle East.

Global Outlook

International observers view Egypt’s ICT push as part of a broader digital transformation in Africa. With projects in cloud computing, cybersecurity, and AI, Egypt aims to attract global tech players and become a regional leader in ICT innovation.

“Investing in ICT is investing in Egypt’s future. Jobs created today will lay the foundation for a more resilient and diversified economy tomorrow,” PM Madbouly concluded.
