Egypt Plans to Transform Shaq el-Thoaban Area into Major Marble and Granite Industrial Hub

Minister of Trade and Industry Ahmed Samir announced on Monday plans to develop the Shaq el-Thoaban area into a significant industrial hub for marble and granite. The objective is to bolster local manufacturing, enhance waste management practices, and elevate sector exports to reach one billion dollars annually, according to a Cabinet statement.

The transformation of the area aims to establish a modern, specialized, and fully integrated industrial city focused on the marble and granite sector, with particular attention given to environmental considerations and efficient waste management practices.

Egypt has initiated the National Industrial Localisation Programme, which seeks to cultivate a diverse industrial base of local suppliers. As part of this initiative, the country has introduced the first registered Egyptian brand, “Proudly Made in Egypt.” These efforts are aligned with Egypt’s strategy to double industrial growth rates and deepen local industry.
