Egypt, Nigeria Strengthen Economic and Political Ties in Recent Talks

Egypt and Nigeria have pledged to bolster their cooperation across a range of sectors, including economics, trade, investment, and security, during a meeting between Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdel Aty and his Nigerian counterpart, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, on Sunday.

During the discussions, Abdel Aty highlighted Egypt’s growing interest in expanding its economic ties with Nigeria, particularly in the fields of construction and energy, where Egyptian firms have already made significant inroads across Africa. He also emphasized Egypt’s readiness to support Nigeria’s counterterrorism efforts, especially in light of rising security challenges in the Sahel region, offering expertise in areas such as training and promoting moderate religious discourse.

The two ministers also addressed broader regional issues, including efforts to maintain peace and security across Africa. They discussed coordinated efforts at the African Union and pledged mutual support for candidates from their respective countries seeking regional and international positions.

Abdel Aty commended Nigeria’s ongoing efforts in combating terrorist organizations, and the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations to address shared challenges and opportunities in the region.
