Egypt Launches Human Trafficking Victims Assistance Fund

Cairo, Egypt — The Egyptian government has announced the establishment of a new fund dedicated to supporting victims of human trafficking. Affiliated with the Prime Minister’s office, the Human Trafficking Victims Assistance Fund will work closely with the National Coordinating Committee for Combating and Preventing Illegal Migration and Human Trafficking, as well as various relevant ministries and entities.

The fund’s primary objective is to provide financial aid to victims of crimes outlined in Law No. 64 of 2010, which targets human trafficking. It will play a crucial role in implementing projects aimed at victim support, including care, education, training, and rehabilitation programs facilitated through both governmental and non-governmental organizations.

Additionally, the fund will finance research, studies, and cultural programs related to human trafficking, aligning with the national strategy to combat this crime. It will also offer psychological, health, and social support services to survivors.

The draft decision detailing the fund’s establishment includes its organizational structure, the formation of a board of directors, and the responsibilities of the chairman. The board is tasked with overseeing the fund’s activities, and the chairman is required to submit an annual report on the fund’s performance, which must be approved by the Prime Minister within three months of the fiscal year’s end.

This initiative is part of Egypt’s broader efforts to combat human trafficking and provide comprehensive assistance to its victims.
