Egypt has announced the establishment of a dedicated government unit aimed at enhancing cooperation with BRICS countries. The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly.
This unit, based at the Egyptian Cabinet’s headquarters in New Alamein, will be responsible for promoting and coordinating cooperation with the BRICS group. Comprising ministers and officials with a focus on BRICS affairs, the unit will play a pivotal role in advancing relations with these emerging economies.
In a significant development, on August 24, BRICS countries extended invitations to six nations, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Argentina, Ethiopia, and Iran, to join the bloc starting from January 1, 2024. Egypt had officially applied for BRICS membership in June.
