Egypt Finalizes Three Agreements with FAO, Supported by Netherlands and Japan

Egypt’s Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources Signs Agreements with FAO to Boost Development Projects Supported by the Netherlands and Japan

Egypt’s Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources has recently entered into three agreements with the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) on Thursday. These agreements aim to support Egypt’s endeavors in enhancing irrigation systems, improving water productivity in agriculture, ensuring food security, increasing crop yields, and raising farmers’ income.

The first agreement focuses on conducting a remote sensing-based assessment of land and water resources productivity. It marks the second phase of a collaborative project with the Netherlands government.

The second project centers on enhancing water productivity in agriculture and is being implemented with the support of the Japanese government.

The third agreement aims to modernize irrigation techniques, benefiting smallholder farmers in Upper Egypt. It is a joint initiative with the Dutch government, with the goal of improving farmers’ livelihoods.

These three agreements play a vital role in realizing the sustainable development goals and addressing the challenges faced by Egypt, including limited water resources and a decline in per capita water availability.
