Egypt’s Egyptian National Railway (ENR) has officially sealed a groundbreaking contract worth €300 million with Orascom Construction and Thales. This momentous agreement is set to breathe new life into the Beni Suef railway line, nestled on the east bank of the majestic River Nile. The announcement was made in a statement released on a serene Sunday.
The formidable consortium comprising Orascom Construction and Thales has been entrusted with the monumental task of modernizing the signalling and telecommunication systems along this vital rail corridor. The scope of their work encompasses everything from design and supply to construction, testing, and commissioning. Yves Joannic, Vice-President of the Main Line Signalling Business Line at Thales, underlined the consortium’s mission: “We aim to enhance passenger safety and reliability, while driving the advancement of transportation networks across the globe.”

This strategic contract finds its place within the broader Railway Improvement and Safety Project for Egypt (RISE). The overarching goal of RISE is to elevate passenger and employee safety within ENR by introducing state-of-the-art railway safety and traffic control systems.
