Cairo, Egypt — The Egyptian government has officially announced Thursday, 4 September 2025, as a paid public holiday in observance of Moulid El-Nabi, the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The decision, confirmed by the Ministry of Manpower, applies to employees in both the public and private sectors, granting citizens a long weekend of rest and celebration. The holiday is part of Egypt’s long-standing tradition of honoring key Islamic occasions with nationwide observance.
Moulid El-Nabi is celebrated annually in Egypt with religious gatherings, Quran recitations, and charitable activities. Families also mark the occasion with traditional sweets such as halawet el-moulid and community festivities that reflect Egypt’s deep cultural heritage.
Officials emphasized that the move not only respects the religious significance of the day but also provides an opportunity for families to come together and participate in the festivities.
The holiday aligns with Egypt’s broader calendar of national and religious occasions, where fixed days are shifted to Thursdays to ensure longer weekends a policy introduced to balance work productivity with cultural and spiritual observance.
