The Egyptian cabinet has approved several key initiatives aimed at strengthening the country’s agribusiness and industrial sectors, including the formalization of a $7.1 million grant agreement with the Canadian government for the Egypt Green Skills for the Climate-smart Agribusiness Network Program (EGYCAN).
The five-year program is designed to enhance employment opportunities in Egypt’s agribusiness sector by promoting climate-smart agricultural practices and upgrading industry-specific skills. It will primarily benefit students in the governorates of Beheira, Gharbiya, and Menoufia, with over 24,000 students expected to directly benefit from the initiative.
In addition to the EGYCAN program, the cabinet has granted a “golden license” to MAFI Agricultural Produce Industries for its new agri-food industrial project in Sadat City. With an investment of more than $180 million, the project is set to launch in March 2026. The initial phase is expected to produce $200 million worth of agri-food products annually, with production slated to double in the second phase. All of the output will be designated for export markets.
The cabinet also approved the issuance of a golden license to Tunisian company Coficab for the construction of an $88 million automotive cable and electrical manufacturing plant in Tenth of Ramadan City. The factory, which will cover an area of 30,000 square meters within the industrial zone, is expected to begin operations by June 2025 and create 267 new jobs. The plant will prioritize the use of locally-sourced materials, with 60 percent of the materials procured locally, and will cater primarily to export markets in Tunisia, the UAE, Turkey, and Eastern Europe.
These strategic projects are part of Egypt’s broader efforts to bolster its industrial capacity, promote export-oriented manufacturing, and create job opportunities in key sectors, including agribusiness and automotive industries.
