Egypt Bolsters North Coast Healthcare Ahead of Busy Summer Season

With millions expected to flock to Egypt’s North Coast this summer, the Ministry of Health and Population has launched a comprehensive seasonal medical plan aimed at ensuring rapid emergency response, disease prevention, and uninterrupted healthcare services across the region.

The plan, announced this week in Cairo, includes deploying additional medical personnel, equipping mobile clinics, and reinforcing hospitals along the Mediterranean coast to handle the seasonal surge in population. The North Coast — a popular destination for both domestic and international tourists — sees a dramatic rise in demand for healthcare during the summer months.

Health Ministry spokesperson Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the initiative will enhance preparedness for potential health risks such as heat-related illnesses, road accidents, and foodborne infections. “We are taking proactive steps to ensure that all visitors and residents receive timely, high-quality care throughout the peak season,” he said.

Key measures include extending operating hours at public hospitals, stationing ambulance units at key traffic and resort points, and ensuring the availability of critical medications and blood supplies. Coordination with local authorities and tourism operators is also being strengthened to provide integrated health services in high-density areas.

Mobile vaccination units and health awareness campaigns will also be deployed to manage seasonal flu and promote hygiene practices, especially in family-oriented resorts.

The summer health plan is part of a broader national strategy to modernize Egypt’s emergency medical response and improve public health outcomes in tourist hotspots. Authorities said similar plans will be implemented in South Sinai and Red Sea governorates in the coming weeks.
