Egypt’s nuclear regulator has granted authorization to the Russian state atomic energy corporation Rosatom to proceed with the development of the fourth unit at the nation’s inaugural nuclear power plant, boasting a substantial 120-megawatt capacity. This significant milestone was confirmed in a statement released by the Cabinet on Wednesday.
Situated in the eagerly anticipated nuclear power plant complex in Dabaa city, within the Mediterranean province of Marsa Matrouh, this monumental project commands an estimated cost of $28.75 billion. Remarkably, approximately 85 percent of this substantial financial commitment has been shouldered by Russia, with Egypt disbursing the remainder over the course of a 22-year loan arrangement.

Sami Shaaban, Chairman of the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA), has been vigilantly overseeing the construction of all phases of this mega-project. He emphasized the authority’s commitment to stringent monitoring through “on-site inspections” to ensure the project’s safe and efficient execution.
