Egypt and Spain Call for Enhanced International Efforts for Regional De-escalation and Peace

Cairo, Egypt – October 17, 2024: In a significant meeting on Thursday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares emphasized the urgent need to strengthen international efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions in the region and achieving a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

During their discussions in Cairo, both leaders stressed the importance of preventing further deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Gaza and Lebanon. Albares reiterated Spain’s unwavering support for Egypt’s initiatives to secure a ceasefire and facilitate humanitarian aid delivery to affected areas.

The Spanish foreign minister highlighted Egypt’s critical role in mitigating regional conflicts and advancing peace and stability. In response, Sisi commended Spain’s constructive approach to regional issues, particularly concerning the Palestinian cause, and acknowledged the ongoing collaboration between the two nations in pursuit of peace.

The meeting also included discussions on enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in economic cooperation and investment opportunities. The Spanish delegation reaffirmed its commitment to contributing to Egypt’s development through Spanish investments in various sectors, including manufacturing, agriculture, and transportation.

Attending the meeting were Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty and Spain’s Ambassador to Cairo, Alvaro Iranzo, further emphasizing the collaborative spirit between the two countries.
