Egypt and Niger Strengthen Health Sector Cooperation

Cairo, Egypt — Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, held discussions with Niger’s Minister of Health, Garba Hakimi, to enhance collaboration in various healthcare fields. The meeting took place during the Global Congress on Population, Health, and Development 2024, themed “Human Development: For a Sustainable Future.”

According to Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, the talks focused on primary and preventive healthcare, family planning, and the exchange of expertise between the two nations. Plans were discussed to facilitate the visit of medical delegations from Niger to Egypt, allowing them to learn from the Egyptian health system and leverage local expertise in research, pharmaceuticals, and medical industries.

Both ministers emphasized the importance of exchanging medical professionals to improve healthcare standards and nursing practices in accordance with modern scientific protocols.

In a humanitarian gesture, Abdel Ghaffar announced the dispatch of 5 tons of medical aid to Niger to address potential flood risks, reflecting Egypt’s commitment to supporting its African neighbors. The meeting also explored opportunities in medical tourism and organ transplantation cooperation.

Hakimi expressed Niger’s eagerness to work closely with Egypt, highlighting the need for support and tools to enhance the efficiency of health systems in both countries.
