Egypt and Canada Sign CA$10 Million Agreement to Combat Climate Change and Enhance Food Security

Egypt and Canada join hands in a CA$10 million agreement to combat climate change and enhance food security.

The Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat, signed the deal with Canadian Ambassador Louis Dumas to launch a climate-smart agriculture and agricultural biodiversity project.

The initiative aims to support regions heavily impacted by climate change, particularly the Nile Delta and Upper Egypt, over a four-year period from 2023 to 2027.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will collaborate with Egypt’s ministries of local development, agriculture, and environment, as well as the National Council for Women, to execute the project. It will benefit 4,536 Egyptian farmers, helping them adapt to climate change while increasing productivity and promoting biodiversity in approximately 144 rural areas.
