Dubai’s RTA Achieves 98% Reduction in Vehicle Emissions in 2023

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) reported on Thursday that it successfully adhered to standards, resulting in a significant 98% reduction in vehicle emissions in 2023, according to WAM.

The achievement was realized through awareness and inspection campaigns conducted by the field teams of the Licensing Activities Monitoring Department. These initiatives were carried out in coordination with the Administration Services Department at the Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector, RTA, in collaboration with the General Department of Traffic at the Dubai Police HQ and Emirates Transport. The primary objective of the campaigns was to underscore the importance of reducing carbon emissions from heavy vehicle exhausts, incorporating educational elements to raise awareness among drivers about the significance of technical specifications and traffic safety standards for the safe operation of trucks and heavy vehicles.

Essa Al Amiri, the Director of Licensing Activities Monitoring at the Licensing Agency of RTA, stated that these impressive results were achieved through a week-long inspection campaign, involving various heavy vehicles across key streets and roads in Dubai.

These efforts are in alignment with RTA’s second strategic goal, focusing on sustainability, and the third strategic goal, emphasizing health, safety, and security, as reported by WAM.

The UAE continues to be a leading country in the field of emission reduction and hosted COP 28 in late 2023.
