On October 4, 2024, Egypt showcased its new Dolphin SDV-X Swimmer Delivery Vehicle (SDV) during a military demonstration, according to CBS reports. The Dolphin SDV-X, a modernized version of the US Navy SEALs’ Gator-class SDV Mk.VIII Mod-1, is designed for covert special operations, enabling Egyptian combat swimmers to discreetly deploy to strategic locations. The SDV-X features advanced navigation systems, increased equipment space, and a reinforced hull for durability and stealth.
Egypt has acquired 36 units of the Dolphin SDV-X, enhancing its naval forces’ capabilities in littoral and shallow water operations, with the vehicle capable of operating at depths of 69 meters and covering a range of 50 nautical miles. These vehicles are set to play a crucial role in reconnaissance, sabotage, and amphibious missions.
The Dolphin SDV-X bolsters Egypt’s naval special forces, which also use advanced equipment like the Akeron MP missile system and have participated in joint exercises such as Eagle Defender with U.S. forces. This type of training sharpens their tactical readiness, reinforcing Egypt’s ability to secure its coastal regions and conduct high-risk operations in both land and sea environments.
