Cairo Reaches 36°C as Heat Wave Peaks, Cooler Temperatures Expected Soon

CAIRO – March 27, 2025 – Egypt is experiencing the peak of an early summer heat wave, with daytime temperatures soaring to 35–36°C, according to Dr. Mohamed Ali Fahim, head of the Climate Information Center at the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation.

Nighttime temperatures have also risen significantly, ranging from 15–20°C, creating a stark contrast between day and night. The heat wave is accompanied by hot, dust-laden southerly and southwesterly winds, which vary from light to moderate in intensity.

Cooler Weather on the Horizon

A temperature drop is expected starting Friday, beginning along the northwestern coast as moderate air masses move in. By Saturday, their cooling effect will extend across the country, bringing a 6-degree drop in temperatures. Highs in Cairo are forecasted to fall to 26–27°C.

Official Start of Spring

The vernal equinox on March 20 marked the official beginning of spring, lasting 92 days, 17 hours, and 35 minutes. During this period, the sun’s rays are perpendicular to the equator, ensuring equal distribution of solar radiation between the northern and southern hemispheres, resulting in roughly 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of night.

Egyptians can expect relief from the current heat wave as the transition into spring continues.
