Cabinet Declares Paid Holiday for Hijri New Year 1446

Cairo – July 5, 2024 – The Cabinet has announced that next Thursday will be a paid holiday for both public and private sector employees in celebration of the Hijri New Year 1446.

Based on astronomical calculations, the 1st of Al-Muharram is expected to occur on Sunday in Egypt, as well as in other Arab and Islamic nations. Egypt’s Dar Al-Ifta is anticipated to declare Saturday as the final day of Dhu Al-Hijjah 1445 after sighting the crescent moon tonight.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has decided that next Thursday will be the designated day off, rather than the actual start day of the Hijri year. This decision includes employees working in ministries, government institutions, public authorities, local administration units, public sector companies, public business sector companies, and private sector companies.

The Prime Minister’s decision aims to provide a convenient break for workers, allowing them to celebrate the occasion with their families without disrupting the work week.
