During the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) in Scotland on Sunday, actor Amir El Masry’s impassioned plea for a ceasefire in Gaza was censored by the BBC in their coverage.
While presenting the award for Best Actress at BAFTA Scotland, El Masry used the platform to call for a cessation of hostilities in Gaza. However, in the BBC’s iPlayer broadcast, the entirety of his speech was omitted. Additionally, calls for a ceasefire by Eilidh Munro, director of ‘A Long Winter,’ the winner of the Short Film & Animation award, were also edited out.
Expressing his frustration, El Masry shared his complete speech on his Instagram story, revealing, “just found out BBC edited out the beginning of my intro.” He took to Instagram to encourage people to raise their voices against the egregious acts committed against the Palestinian people.
