Alexandria Museums Commence 13th Edition of Alexandrian Heritage Week

The vibrant celebration of the Alexandrian Heritage Week kicked off on Sunday, continuing through Saturday, with Alexandria museums showcasing a variety of events and activities.

A highly anticipated highlight of the week’s opening ceremonies was the reopening of the Greco-Roman Museum, marking a significant moment for attendees.

The festivities included a captivating concert by the Royal Quartet and a theatrical performance presented by students from the colleges of Saint Mark and Saint Jean. As part of the week’s offerings, an exhibition titled ‘Alexandria Ad Aegyptum’ showcased artifacts through intricate drawings, featuring the artistic work of Alexandrian 20th-century artist Mahmoud Said.

Adding to the cultural richness, the Alexandria National Museum unveiled ‘Basili Palace, 110 Freedom Road,’ a show that delves into the titular residence through paintings. The exhibition also highlighted historical documents and photographs from its owner, Assaad Basili Pasha, a wealthy merchant and the visionary behind the museum’s construction in 1928. The week promises a tapestry of cultural experiences and insights into Alexandria’s rich heritage.
