Egyptian Banks to Close September 4 in Observance of Prophet’s Birthday CBE

Cairo, Egypt — The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has announced that all banks operating in the country will suspend operations on Thursday, September 4, 2025, in commemoration of Moulid El-Nabi (the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday).

According to the CBE, normal banking services will resume on Sunday, September 7, following the weekend break. The holiday applies to both public and private sector banks, aligning with Egypt’s national calendar of religious observances.

Moulid El-Nabi, a significant occasion in the Islamic world, is traditionally marked with prayers, religious gatherings, and cultural festivities. In Egypt, the day is recognized as a public holiday, with many institutions closing to allow citizens to participate in the celebrations.

The announcement comes as Egyptians prepare for the annual observance, which often sees vibrant street decorations, charitable acts, and the distribution of traditional sweets such as halawet el-moulid.

With the banking sector observing the closure, customers are advised to complete urgent financial transactions ahead of time or make use of digital platforms for uninterrupted services.
