Operations at Cairo International Airport remained fully functional despite a brief power outage on Tuesday, the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation confirmed in a statement aimed at quelling passenger concerns and social media speculation.
The temporary disruption, which occurred in the early afternoon, lasted only a few minutes and was promptly contained through the airport’s automated backup power systems. Authorities say there were no flight delays or safety compromises during the incident.
“The outage was minor and had no impact on flight schedules, air traffic control, or passenger processing,” the ministry stated. “Our contingency protocols worked exactly as designed.”
Airport officials attributed the outage to a localized grid issue and emphasized that both the terminal buildings and runway systems remained fully operational thanks to immediate switchover to auxiliary generators.
Videos circulating on social media had shown brief dimming inside the arrival halls, sparking concern among travelers. However, the ministry reassured the public that passenger safety and service continuity were never at risk.
Cairo International Airport, one of the busiest in Africa and a key regional hub, handles tens of thousands of passengers daily. Authorities stressed that such power blips are rare and that infrastructure improvements are ongoing as part of Egypt’s broader civil aviation modernization plan.
“No flights were cancelled or delayed due to the incident,” the statement concluded, adding that a full report would be submitted to the relevant regulatory bodies as standard procedure.
The ministry urged travelers to rely on official communication channels for verified information.
