Egypt Engages Iran, U.S. Advisor in Diplomatic Push to Ease Regional Tensions

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has held separate phone conversations with his Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and U.S. national security advisor Richard Witkoff, as part of Cairo’s growing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate rising military tensions in the Middle East.

In statements released by Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday, Shoukry stressed the urgent need for restraint, dialogue, and a return to diplomatic solutions amid fears of a broader regional conflict.

The calls come as clashes and political hostilities intensify across multiple fronts, raising alarm over the potential spillover of violence. Shoukry reportedly urged both sides to uphold international law and prioritize civilian safety in ongoing confrontations.

Diplomatic sources say Egypt is leveraging its historical ties and regional influence to mediate and prevent further deterioration, echoing its longstanding position as a stabilizing force in the Arab world.

The talks with Iran and the U.S. reflect Cairo’s attempt to maintain a balanced approach while encouraging multilateral cooperation toward peace and security in the region.
